THE AIR FORCE PRODUCES A CHAMPION AT THE COMMANDER’S TROPHY - 2014

Leading Aircraftman Sachith Madushanka won the Commander’s Trophy Golf Tournament 2014, which saw the participation of some of Sri Lanka’s finest golfers, at the annual Golf tournament held on 25th January 2014 at the Eagles’ Golf Links, China Bay.

 The tournament, played under the ‘Stableford Rules’, was an open event and commenced under a gunshot start at 0730AM with the participation of 81 golfers; 17 ladies and 64 men.

In the Men’s Division, Mr. Farzarn Sikkander and Mr. Priath Fernando received Longest Drive (1st Fairway) and Nearest to Pin (#18 Hole) awards respectively. Ms. Dhanushi Senadhira bagged both of these awards In the Ladies’ Division. Ms. Shirani Buffin won the Commander’s Trophy (Ladies’ Division) 2014 with 39 Points while Mrs. Roshini Sangani won the Runner-up Trophy with 33 Points. In the highly competitive Men’s Division, the Air Force’s own Leading Aircraftman Sachith Madushanka won the Commander’s Trophy 2014 with 40 Points while Master Prashan Peiris won the Runner-up Trophy with 29 Points.

The awards were presented at a gala awards night held at the Air Force’s  Bayview’ Resort in China Bay by the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Pakistan High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, HE Maj Gen (R) Qasim Qureshi, participated in this year's tournament.The Chief of Staff of the SLAF, Air Vice Marshal Kolitha Gunatilleke, Director Aeronautical Engineering Air Vice Marshal Jayanath Kumarasiri, Director Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Air Vice Marshal Rohan Pathirage, Base Commander SLAF Base Katunayaka Air Commodore Sudarshana Pathirana and former Director of Dental Services, retired Air Vice Marshal Asoka Amunugama also participated in the tournament.
